Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program
The Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) has finally set out to do what many in Pennsylvania have been craving - a way for the business community to be directly involved in education. The EITC allows companies to support local non-profits, at a small cost, instead of paying tax dollars to the Government, they can now assist the community. Businesses have been responding very positively to the challenge.
More than 2,200 companies have given more than $260 million to programs all across Pennsylvania. On May 7, 2001, by a bipartisan majority, Pennsylvania made history by becoming the first state to pass an education credit aimed at corporations. House Bill 996, the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC), provides companies with a 75% tax credit for donations to a nonprofit scholarship or educational improvement organization. If the company commits to making the same donation for the following year, then the tax credit increases to 90%.
Throughout Pa, more than 33,000 children annually are benefiting from the EITC program, and numerous children in public schools are benefiting from innovative programs that are being created and initiated thanks to this program. The EITC program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Businesses in Pennsylvania that pay any of the following taxes qualify to participate in the EITC program:

La Scuola d'Italia Galileo Galilei, Inc is a Non-profit organization with 501 (c)(3) approval, that intends to spread Italian Culture, History, Art, and Language in and around the Pittsburgh area and throughout the United States. La Scuola d'Italia GG has been founded by three professionals, with exceptionally strong ties to Italy and to the Italian and Italian-American Communities in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. We are Instructors, Educators, Scientists, and Researchers who are deeply passionate about the Italian Culture and Language; and we are Italian and Italian American Citizens, who want to create a new opportunity for the diverse Communities and for the surrounding areas, as well as for the fast-growing Italian and Italian American Community, allowing Italian to finally make it's mark in the Pittsburgh area!
We also realize the importance of studying, learning, and speaking a second language or a third language in the modern world of today. Not only does it increase brain development in young children, but it is also an excellent skill to have in business, art, music, opera, science, and many other fields or while traveling abroad. Unfortunately, Italian has been a much desired language of study in and around the Pittsburgh area, and yet, is lacking in schools and can only be found in rare occasions or at different Universities in the area. There are not much options for Parents who would like their children to learn Italian.
Through the years, many Italian Americans all across the United States have lost their language, while strongly trying to hold onto their culture and heritage and many Children of Italians as well are fighting to keep their language and culture, while desiring to be American as well. We would like to bring back the Italian language (culture, history, art, etc) to the lost and future generations of Italians and Italian Americans here in the Pittsburgh area.
Our Goal is to create many different educational programs, cultural and history courses, as well as language courses and a study abroad program that will allow us to regain a lost culture in the Pittsburgh area. We are open to all (different types of students, Italians, Italian Americans and non-Italians and non-Italian Americans) who are ready, willing, and have an interest and a desire to know and learn more about the Italian Language and Culture; who desire to travel through Italy, and for those who want to be and feel more Italian.
Along with the desire to spread the Italian Language and Culture, we also realize that it is necessary for those who are from Italy or other countries to adapt to the Pittsburgh language, lifestyle, and American way of life. We want to give them a helping hand, by offering to them ESL Language Courses of all levels and types.
